Washer Dryer Glossary

 

 

 Anti Crease Program:

This program enables your washing dryer to continue spinning after the cycle. This allows the washing in the machine to move and become untangled. This reduces creasing and helps to speed up your ironing time.

 

Audible end of program:

When the washer dryer has finished its cycle; it will make a sound to alert you that your program is complete and that the wash load is ready to be emptied.

 

Built In/Integrated:

This type of washer dryer fits into or behind you cupboard doors. A built in washing machine is out of the way and will not alter the current layout of your kitchen

 

Child-safety lock: With this safety feature children cannot open the washer dryer when the machine is locked.

 

Control Panel Type:

This is the type of display that will appear on the washer dryer control panel.

 

Delicate wash:

This gentle wash feature is designed to take great care when washing your clothing. This means you do not have to hand wash them.

 

Delay Timer:

This feature allows you to delay your wash load to a time that better suits you.

 

Drum Capacity:

The size of the load your machine can carry; this is measured in liters.

 

Energy consumption:

The amount of energy consumed during one cycle.

 

Energy Rating:

The ranking/rating awarded to a washer dryer for its energy efficiency. A++ is currently the highest energy rating that can be awarded to a washing machine. The better the energy ranking the better your machine is for the environment, this will also be better for your energy bills.

 

Energy Recommended:

A washer dryer that has been recommended by the Energy Saving Trust is ‘energy recommended’. This means it is better for the environment than machines that are not recommended

 

Freestanding:

A freestanding washer dryer is a model that can stand alone. It does not need to be supported by a kitchen unit

 

Fuzzy Logic:

An intelligent technology that uses sensors in the drum to measure the moisture in the laundry. When the clothes are dry the cycle will automatically end

 

Half Load Function:

This function adjusts the amount of water used in a washer dryer cycle. This is beneficial as it saves time, money and energy

 

Hand Wash:

Clothing with a ‘hand wash’ label can be washed safely on this cycle. This cycle is extremely gentle on your clothing so does not damage delicate items

 

High-low dryer settings:

This option allows you to choose how you would like to dry your laundry. For example, if a load is partially dry you can opt for a low heat setting to help complete the drying process

 

Intensive wash:

A thorough wash program; ideal for very dirty clothing

 

Memory Function:

A feature that remembers your favorite or most often used programs. This makes it quicker for you to do laundry.

 

Noise Level (dB):

The amplified level of undesired background noise. A lower noise level from your washer dryer will mean that a cycle will be less intrusive and noisy in your kitchen.

 

Number of Programs:

The amount of wash options available on the washer dryer.

 

Pre Wash:

Gives your laundry a short pre wash before a main cycle. This is ideal for wash loads that are very dirty.

 

Quick Wash:

A rapid wash feature that can be used for clothing that is only slightly dirty or when you are in a hurry.

 

Refresh:

A program that will refresh the fabrics of your laundry without completing a full cycle.

 

 

Reverse action:

This prevents clothing from tangling and creasing by loosening the clothing as they are drying.

 

Reverse Drum:

A washer dryer with a reverse drum can turn in both directions, clockwise and anti clockwise.

 

Silk Wash:

Makes sure your silk items are correctly cared for whilst also reducing creases. The spin cycle is gentle with your clothing and takes the hassle out of washing by hand.

 

Spin performance:

The rating that is given to a washer dryer based on how well it extracts water from your laundry.

 

Spin Speed (RPM):

This is the speed with which the washer dryer will spin during the cycle. The higher the spin speed the more water will be expelled during a cycle.

 

Time to end of program:

There is a display on the washer dryer which shows how much time there is remaining until the end of the cycle.

 

Variable Spin:

Washer dryers with the ability to adjust the speed at which the drum spins during the cycle.

 

Variable Temperature:

The ability to vary the temperature of the cycle; this gives you the ability to customize your wash programs.

 

Wash Load (kg):

This is the amount of laundry that can be washed during one cycle. A washer dryer with a larger wash load can reduce creasing.

 

Wash Performance:

This is the rating given to a washer dryer in order to indicate how well it cleans during a cycle.

 

Water Consumption:

The amount of water used during the washer dryer cycle.

 

Wide Opening Door:

A wide door opening allows you easily load and unload your laundry.

 

 

 

Wool Program:

A wool cycle reduces the speed in which the drum spins; this ensures clothing is not stretched. During a wool program clothing is constantly moving in the water; the gentleness of this washing machine cycle means hand washing is no longer required.
